There is a tree in our front yard that is perfect for climbing. The kids call it the "Monkey Tree" because we often spot monkeys in it. Here is the youngest monkey we've seen so far. He is only 15 months old in this picture.
It is an unexplained phenomenon that here in the harsh non-tropical climate of Kaysville, Utah, these animals continue to appear. Sometimes there is just one monkey and sometimes they arrive in groups swinging and climbing through the limbs.
Why do they come? Is it instinct? Some sort of ancient migrating ritual? Or does this tree hold some other monkey significance? Each summer, we document several incidents of these sightings. Is there a scientific explanation? We may never know.
Even more amazing is the fact that these monkeys have been returning to this tree for so long. This monkey was documented in 2001 when it was only 3 years old. It has since passed its knowledge of tree climbing on to younger monkeys.
Whatever the reason, we love our monkeys and love to see them climbing in this special tree!
