Whew...I'm glad I got that out of my system

Ok, so I cannot remain silent any longer on this--and it's my blog, so I am going to stand on my soapbox for a few minutes and say how dissapointed I am in the people who made such a big stinking deal about the President's speech. I mean, seriously, pulling your kids out of school? How many times a year does a basketball player or an author come and do an assembly for our kids, and nobody opts out of that. Do we really trust our President less with our children than some Olympic athlete who comes to talk about who knows what? I guarantee that not one of the people who protested or opted their students out had any idea what President Obama was going to talk about. Nor did they look into it. People refused to let their kids hear the speech because they were mad that Obama won the election and he is liberal and they are conservative. The End... What did they think he was going to do, open up with a little talk about abortion? Of course not. He told kids to take responsibility for their education, to work hard and that they are the future of America. Pretty scary stuff. Be an informed parent. Learn what your kids are hearing and talk to them about it. If the President's beliefs are different than yours, explain it to your kids. That is what Free Speech is about--being able to disagree with someone, not acting ignorant and refusing to let your children hear anything but what you want them to hear. Maybe you should follow them around at school and close their ears when their classmates say something controversial. I hear people all the time complaining about how the young people now days have such little respect for their elders. HELLO?! Are you serious? Where do you think kids learn to be disrespectful to their teachers? Maybe when they hear their parents at home saying how they don't think that President Obama has anything worthwhile to say to their kids, so they are refusing to let them listen. Hmmm... Whether you like it or not, he is our President and even if you disagree with his politics, his office deserves respect.

I think we have a real problem in our country with this extreme bi-partisanship. It is tearing America apart. People are becoming intolerant haters. They are not just attacking someone's different interpretation about the constitution, but attacking the person, their family, the way they speak, throw a baseball, worship, dress, etc. What kind of people are we becoming? I think that there is no place for this in a Christian society. It is completely out of control. If you do not agree with your government, write letters, run for office, support somebody you do believe in. Find a way to work FOR what you believe instead of AGAINST those who believe differently.

I think everyone should take the time to listen to the speech President Obama gave. It was super. He is an inspirational speaker and has a lot to offer our students and our country if we will just get behind him and be supportive.
